Sew Your Own Grow Bags - great tut, also see comments; use weed barrier fabric, or pond underlayment fabric (I'm also going to experiment using pillowcases from the thrift store as grow bags for potatoes, with soil and potatoes in the bottom, then straw)
Growing peppers. Peppers hate nitrogen/commercial fertilizer. Wait until plants flower before fertilizing. Then spray leaves with 1 tsp of Epsom salt to 1qt of water (peppers need Magnesium to set fruit). Peppers also enjoy small amounts of potassium (wood ashes).
The Hairy Balls Tree. A.K.A. The Family Jewels Tree. I came across these babies when I was searching for a tall background plant for the front of the house. Needless to say, I ordered the seeds strictly based on the name because I am going to LOVE seeing the horrified looks on people's faces when they say something bland like "Oh, that's an interesting-looking plant. What's it called?" I like the color and the flowers, too... but that was purely coincidental.
If you're going away on vacation, place a pot on a step stool on your counter your succulents around the step stool, wet & run strings from the pot to the plants (tuck into each pot), fill the pot with water & the water will leach down to the plants.
