Guests have reported several encounters with ghosts, the most prominent being with Edward Brett, a former farmer at the hotel in 1900 who shot himself. He has reportedly been spotted wandering the halls of the hotel and even lying on a bed in one room.
Muchnic House, Atchison, Kansas was built in 1885 and was once known for having grand parties. It is now an art gallery, but most interesting is the ghost who is said to haunt it. During the time when the house was used for entertaining, a maid fell to her death down the back stairs. Since then, the lights in the back staircase turn on and off by themselves, there is the scent of freshly cooking bacon and the apparition of a young woman has been seen near the banister above the stairs.
