With an exposed brick wall behind the bar, heavy tied-back draperies around the windows and stellar light fixtures including a brilliant way to recycle vintage Victrolas, you'd think Dogwood dates to Jack London's days in the East Bay. Featuring a dozen old-school cocktails, Dogwood is a mixology must. [...] what better to accompany a classic drink than meat and cheese? Charcuterie and grilled cheese sandwiches make a great snack for a group and pack enough punch for a meal for two. The mixed cured meat and cheese plate ($15) is simple yet impressive, with a rotating cast that includes three charcuterie selections such as speck, sopressata and coppa; three cheeses such Dumbarton blue, Point Reyes toma and robiola; plus mustard and olives. An eclectic mix of a dozen local, domestic and imported brews - Old Rasputin stout ($7) and Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA ($4) - plus a similar number of wines by the glass or bottle. Have a drink and some grub at Dogwood, then hit the avenue.
