The Chico Firefighters Association Local 2734 provided gifts, food and fire safety tips to 38 families in its Adopt-A-Family program, and the Butte County Fire Department Volunteer Company 33 in Magalia helped out 20 families at its fire station.
Butte County EMS has launched a membership program meant to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs for ambulance rides. People who enroll in the program will be provided ground ambulance transportation in Butte, Glenn and Colusa counties at no cost if they have insurance or capped at $500 if they have no insurance at the time of the service. Chico firefighters are proposing to build a 9/11 memorial outside of Fire Station 5. A piece of steel remnant from the World Trade City that was donated to the city will be a part of the piece. The firefighters union has pledged $10,000 toward the monument's completion but is also accepting donations to offset additional costs. A fund has been set up for "Fire Department 9/11 Memorial" through the North Valley Community Foundation.
