Finally, something that made it into the story: the maps of Abraham Ortelius.  Aodh's seduction of Katarina was a full-on assault: he meant to have her, and he aimed ruthlessly for all the hidden parts of her that he saw so well, including her adventurous spirit & her curiosity.  His wedding gift to her: a copy of Ortelius's map of the world.  :sigh:

This map is a part of an atlas known as the Queen Mary Atlas. Queen Mary commissioned the atlas in 1558 from the Portuguese mapmaker Diego Homen. Mary died before the atlas was finished, and after her death, the atlas was presented to Queen Elizabeth I.
