Tempranillo is a black skinned grape that is used to make full-bodied red wines. It is primarily grown in the Rioja region of Spain but can also be found in Portugal. Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Australia, and California. The wines made from this grape are ruby red in color and are known for having aromas and flavors of berries, plum, tobacco, vanilla, and leather. It is highly susceptible to pests and disease so it is often grafted onto hardier rootstock.
Cabernet Franc is a red wine grape that is used for both blending and as a single varietal wine. MostIy grown in France (especially the Loire Valley), it is also produced in Italy, Hungary, Canada and the United States. Its flavor and aromas bring to mind raspberries, black currants, violets and grapite. It can also have a vegetal aspect that ranges from leafy to green bell peppers. Cabernet Franc is one of the parents of Cabernet Sauvignon, when it was crossed with Sauvignon Blanc.
