JOHANNA: THE OTHER VAN GOGH. On July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh died at just 37 in the town of Auvers-sur Oise, in France. Left behind, and with the awesome task of preserving his amazing legacy, was one of the least celebrated souls in Vincent's extraordinary and brief life of—his sister-in-law, Johanna. Had it not been for this remarkable woman, virtually nothing of Vincent we know of today would remain, for she became heir advocate of his collection of over two thousand works of art.
