The Hausa are one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa. They are a chiefly located in the Sahelian areas of northern Nigeria and southeastern Niger.

The village of Garadawa, near Keita, Niger, is one of the villages where Project Heita has been restoring soil.  Zakari Minara is an older woman of the village -- most of the work for Project Heita has been done by the women of the area.  by JC Richardson

Dirt poor -- an individual with very little money or possessions. Homes were original just plain dirt floors within the house. Only the wealthy could afford any type of floor covering over the dirt. So if an person's home had a dirt floor they were poor.
