In the arid Arizona desert, the Wigwam Village Motel in Holbrook still provides Route 66 aficionados the opportunity to “Sleep in a Wigwam!”  The motel was successfully operated until Interstate 40 bypassed the downtown in the late-1970s.  The motel reopened in 1988 with part of the main office  a museum.  Fifteen concrete and steel 21 ft wide by 28 ft high freestanding wigwams are arranged in a semi-circle.
