Tiger Tank, Ww2

German WWII prototypes - Tank Encyclopedia

The Germans experimented with a variety of concepts and prototypes, and most of them never made it to the production lines.

"Common" knowledge is that the Tiger was conceived after the Germans encountered the Russian T-34 during the campaign on the east . This is not entirely accurate as the planning had already begun at a meeting with Hitler on 26th May, 1941. It was not until June 22nd, 1941 that Operation Barbarossa was launched. However, Hitler's interest in the project peaked after the Germans encountered the T-34 medium tank which had practically rendered the entire German panzer forces obsolete.
