Road to the Florida Swamp Lap Quilt 05 “The Florida Swamp is located in Gainesville, Florida, and is home to the University of Florida Gators. Each block was designed by a member of Quilters Unlimited (See quilt label) in a 2013 Road to Florida challenge. I decided to make the blocks in my alma mater's colors, orange and blue.”

Lap Quilt - 15. Leaves by Susan Skornia. From Susan: "My own design fits the leaves I found in Tallahassee and Michigan, my birth state. After creating patterns from them, I marked matching fabric, embroidered the veins, cut out the leaves, and appliqued each one onto a block. Fruit and flowers added more color. Diane Higginbotham's leaf quilt was my inspiration."

Lexi’s Turtles Lap Quilt 02 “I made this quilt for my sister who is a lover of sea turtles, an avid boater, and diver. She picked out the blue turtle fabric, and it was my job to make it bright and tropical. I chose the square in a square, so that I could frame the turtles and use fabrics in the outer squares to pick up the colors in the turtle shells. The method I used to piece this quilt is taught by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star.”

Florida Baskets Lap Quilt 01 “I won most of the blocks in a Block of the Month raffle in July 2009. For the quilting I used two techniques, straight line echo quilting around the smaller pieces, with freehand drawn flowers and leaves in the larger rectangles. I used #5 perle cotton thread for the quilting.”

Sunset at the Water’s Edge Lap Quilt 07 “This quilt is a joint effort by several ladies at the LCSO. It brings to mind watching the sunset from the beach or the edge of the water, and what you would see as you look out onto the water. The abstract-diagonal-quilting pattern reflects the moon rising over waves and the sun setting.”
