"Scumbling" this the art of applying an opaque paint finish to furniture to alter it's look. In this case, the scumbling is beautiful wood grain (which doesn't actually exist) on this European pine chest of drawers. It has had a little damage over the years (see 2nd drawer from bottom) but we have decided to leave it in it's original condition being quite rare. Quite an unusual effect on this curious chest of drawers with a tea caddy shaped top. Certainly a talking piece!
