Flora MacDonald's traditional birthplace, she aided Bonnie Prince Charles escape from Benbecula, by organising a boat to take the Prince and his manservant across the water to Skye.  She was arrested and sent to the Tower of London, where she was released on parole, she moved to the North Carolina Colony before she and her husband were exiled to Nova Scotia, she returned to South Uist and spent therest of her days there.
