If you love heavy equipment, the place to hang out is downtown at night. That’s when most of the action happens in downtown’s largest street project in two decades. Up for retooling are 100-year-old sewer lines, the street-level electric system and tree irrigation. The street also gets spiffed up with an overlay of fresh asphalt.
Three drilling rigs are working 24 hours a day to bore holes for anchors that will secure the spillway at Wanapum Dam more securely to the bedrock below. Drilling is expected to continue throughout the summer at the Columbia River dam, while the Grant County PUD awaits federal approval to begin installing high-strength cable anchors, PUD spokesman Tom Stredwick said Tuesday.
