Kilcoy Castle - Kilcoy was granted in marriage settlement to Alexander Mackenzie and Jean Fraser in 1618, making Alexander the 1st Mackenzie of Kilcoy. By 1846 the Castle had fallen into a “ruinous condition” because the roof had been removed to avoid taxes, as was usual in those days. By the end of the 19th century, the Burton-Mackenzies inherited Kilcoy. They called in architect: Alexander Ross and his superb restoration of the castle saved Kilcoy for posterity.

The Collegiate Church, Tain. The church was built between about 1370 and 1460 to house the shrine of St Duthac, an early medieval saint who was born in Tain. The peak of the shrine's popularity came around 1500 with the repeated visits of James IV. At The Stewart Gathering we will be able to listen to some of his favourite music here.

Red Castle - Scotland... home of my 10th great grandfather Collin Malcomb McKenzie. It's in ruins but I'd still love to travel there to see it!

Kinkell Castle - A complete yellow-rendered tower house, Kinkell Castle is located on the Black Isle a mile southeast of Conon Bridge. Completed in the 1590s for John Mackenzie of Gairloch (not my lot). Used for a time as a farm-building, the castle became a ruin but was restored in 1969 by the artist, Gerald Laing.
