Blue Star's TSS Sultan Star by Wallace W.Trickett. When built by Camell Laird in '30 she was considered to be the fastest merchant ship in the world when built, she carried the first direct direct cargo for Blue Star Line from New Zealand to the UK. 14/2/1940 by the German submarine U-48, West of Lands End, in a position 45.54N, 10.03W. She was on a voyage from Buenos Aires to Liverpool with refrigerated meat and general cargo. One of her crew of 47 was killed.
Blue Star ordered five sister ships in Almeda-Avila-Andalucia-Arandora-Avelona, the luxury five. The "Star" was added to the names and the whole fleet a couple of years later possibly to avoid confusion with Royal Mail vessels.
