Japanese carved netsuke of a Kappa, Japanese river sprite, emerging from its watery home. Head, shoulders and arms are visible above a breaking wave base. Intricate detailed etching and staining. Beaked mouth and shoulder length hair frame a head perched on scaled arms. The Sara has been concealed by a toad seated on the top of the Kappa's head, hind legs braced against its mounts shoulders, inlaid eyes. Signed Tomomasa. Size: 1.5" x 1.5".
