Carpenter and residential designer Mike Maines has installed many laundry areas in narrow spaces. Here, he illustrates three variations on a well-designed laundry closet: a narrow closet, a wide closet with the washer and dryer side by side, and a wide closet with the appliances stacked.
This photograph is part of a series shot during a cross-country road trip in the summer of 2011. My photographs are heavily influenced by my immediate environment, from my everyday surroundings to unfamiliar landscapes I encounter during my travels. In this series, I found that I was heavily inspired by nature, or as I like to say, "the untouched pauses," and I focused on documenting those pockets of space and time.
