The 13¼" oval, lidded patriotic ditty box is decorated with a sailor, an American flag, an eagle, stars, a schooner, and a bark. Dealer Patricia Stauble of Wiscasset, Maine, gave it a run, but in the end a phone bidder won it for $4248

Ditty Boxes were used by enlisted sailors and crew to store their most treasured personal possessions whilst at sea, as well as personal items needed on an everyday basis.
