Here's To The High School Theatre Kids

"I spent much of my life determined to melt into the crowd but rarely succeeded. Even in the midst of the uniformity of a Hello Dolly chorus in high school, I managed to call attention to myself: During one night's performance, while all my fellow Harmonia Gardens waiters knelt in tribute to Dolly, I mistakenly leapt to my feet. If my fellow performers noticed, they were too kind to say anything." http://www.markdavidgerson.com/books/actsofsurrender •…

Acts of Surrender: A Writer's Memoir

In 1918, Humphrey Bogart's parents hoped he'd go on to Yale. Instead, the high school dropout joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Leviathan. Later, the values and experience he gained in service--"good manners, articulateness, punctuality, modesty," and perhaps even his trademark scar--led him to the beginning of a storied acting career. This week's tribute honors Bogart, his legend, his service, and the idea that great things often begin with service to others. Thank you, Mr. Bogart.
