Egyptian palette ["Living Colors" by Walch & Hope, sadly OOP] Depending on ochre found locally, reds are variable, from a warm earthy brown to almost purple. Black, blue, & green predominate as accents. The essence of Egyptian usage is 3- to 4-color combinations hinged on red or yellow. These swatches come from tempera painted on the spot by artists as archaeological teams opened tombs. They are among the best surviving records; the original paintings have degraded with exposure to moisture.
