Gaming purse, French, late 17th C. Made of silk, leather, metal.  like "Put" or "La Bête." Made of velvet or brocade, the bags are often heavily embroidered with silver and gold metallic threads. This example has a band of embroidered fleur-de-lis motifs, an indication of a French origin. Like others of the type, it has a round flat bottom and closes by means of a drawstring at the top edge.
