A TINY RIVER HOUSE IN SERBIA Photograph by Irene Becker for National Geographic My friend Dan G. emailed me this wonderful photograph by Irene Becker that shows a tiny house in the middle of the Drina River near the town of Bajina Basta, Serbia.

A Korowai treehouse, West Papua New Guinea, Indonesia.  The Korowai are a nomadic forest people who live in tree houses, constructed close to 100 feet up in the jungle. The Korowai houses, well above flood-water levels, is to disrupt rival clans from capturing people (especially women and children) for slavery or cannibalism. The height and girth of the common ironwood stilts also serves to protect the house from arson attacks in which huts are set alight and the inhabitants smoked out.

HALO is a socially sustainable home for four students, running on renewable energy from the sun. Over 25 students, Team Sweden, from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden designed and built HALO as their entry into the Solar.

Krzywy Domek -Crooked House-, is a shopping center & multipurpose bldg in Sopot, Poland. Designed by Szotyńscy & Zaleski, the building boasts a unique look that was inspired by the fairy tale illustrations of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg.
