Explore Nub Inside, Allergic Peanuts and more!

Unless you’re allergic, peanuts are a delicious snack that provide a lot of nutrients. But what if we told you that there is more to the peanut than initially meets the eye? Put a dish of cocktail peanuts in front of us and we’ll consume the entire bowl without even realizing we started. We’re only human. But do we really know what we’re eating? If you’ve ever slowed down to crack a peanut in half, you’ll notice a little nub inside (and if you’re smart, you’ll pull it out and eat it…

Three boys in Missouri fell through the ice and into Lake St. Louis last winter. By the time a rescue team arrived, one of the boys had managed to almost get himself to shore, while a second boy clung to the edge of the ice. Those two boys were rescued and treated for hypothermia immediately. The third boy, however, was unable to be seen. He had been trapped under the ice, and underwater. Fourteen-year old John Smith was pulled from the water after about fifteen minutes of submersion…

Five years ago, we thought we'd have to stockpile our favorite Hostess treats when the brand filed for bankruptcy. They ended up making the sweetest comeback ever, and have more than made up for putting us on that emotional rollercoaster with delicious riffs on their classics. (Deep-fried Twinkies, anyone?) Now it's a new kind of convenient-store snacks that are melting our hearts. After one consumer in Ohio spotted Hostess-branded ice cream on shelves, news broke that both Twinkie and…

What if I told you that there existed a rock-like sea creature that lives on the coast of Chile and Peru that, when you cut it open, has bloody guts resembling a tomato? And what if you could eat that rock? Lurking off the coast of Chile and Peru lives a sea creature that blends in so naturally with the rocks on which it lives you'd be forgiven for missing it. However, if you were to accidentally stand on this living rock it will burst to expose a mass of blood-red hermaphrodite creatures…

Though easy, initially, to call fake, a Hollywood prop or whatever, the above artifact was seen by us in person recently in Cusco Peru. It was presented to us, along with a small mummified elongated humanoid skull and body by a local person. X rays of the “hand” (below) show that each of the 3 fingers has 6 bones, while a human hand has 3. Once again, as with the skull, physicians in Cusco determined that clearly this is not the hand of a human, but is made up of bone and skin. They were…

Back in February shoe with a severed foot in it made its way onto a Pacific Northwest shore — making it the 16th since 2007. Along British Columbia, Canada, and Washington state, feet in athletic shoes or boots have been discovered on their shores. Last week the shoe was found in British Columbia by a family who picked it up and noticed that there were human bones in it. Based on the model of shoe, the foot belonged to someone who went missing between March 2013 and last week, according to…
