DEMETER - Great Greek goddess of agriculture, grain, bread, and the prime sustenance of mankind. After Persephone (Demeter's daughter) was kidnapped and taken to the underworld, by Hades, Demeter wandered away from Olympus and mourned Persephone, causing crops to die and wither. When none of the gods could find her, IT WAS PAN who found her in Arcadia. Pan then alerted Zeus, who in turn compromised with Demeter, to return to Olympus. Art - by By Emily Balivet
