GIRL ALMIGHTY - just wanted to go to bed. Let my new ink heal. But I am unsettled. Of course I am. Because of you. As if it wasn’t enough that we have recently discussed your behavior making me uncomfortable, you decided to text me and tell me - uninvited - that the two photos I posted of my tattoos are “keeping you awake.” Worse still, you have chosen - of all the words in the English language - “sexy” to describe my last tattoo. You did not ask what it meant or why I got it. You have…

The older my kids get the more I realize that one of the most dynamic things I can teach them is the power of the tongue. "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me." Remove that false proverb from their lips and teach truth. The most powerful instrument we have been given is our lips. Our voice. The ability to speak wisely or ominously. I have survived the pains of labor and moved on with the love and desire to endure it all over again yet sadly I have held on to…

THE LOSSOTH On the icy Cape of Forochel to the north of the Westlands there lived a people called the Lossoth in the Third Age. They were a reclusive, peaceful folk, wary of all the warlike Men of Middle-earth. In the common tongue of Men they were called the Snowmen of Forochel, The Lossoth were poor but wise in the ways of their cold lands. They built their snow and, in sliding carts and skates of bone, they crossed the ice lands snow & hunted thick-furred animals for skins.

Irving cautions: Our human tendency is to be impatient with the person who cannot see the truth that is so plain to us. We must be careful that our impatience is not interpreted as condemnation or rejection. Henry B. Irving, (Bind Up Their Wounds, Ensign Nov. 2013 p) So we can be inviting by being a light rather than a sharp tongued critic. It is helpful to…

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. ~James 3:9-10

The tongue has no bones but is strong enough to break a heart. So be careful with your words.
