Vicksburg, MS - Vicksburg National Military Park commemorates the military history of the city of Vicksburg, which surrendered to Union Forces on July 4th, 1863, along with Port Hudson. The outcome of this historic battle was a huge factor in the future of the Civil War, as the Union gained undisputed control of the vital transportation corridor of the Mississippi River.
