The Tomás Rivera Award Mexican American Children's Book Award was founded in 1995 by the Texas State University College of Education to honor "to honor authors and illustrators who create literature that depicts the Mexican American experience." This award sets itself apart from the other Latino-focused awards by specifically focusing on Mexican American-centric books.
