The city is the final stop of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line of the Metra commuter rail system, allowing rail service into Chicago. A 1953 vintage EMD E-9 cab unit passenger diesel, is seen stopping at the La Grange Road commuter rail station in downtown La Grange Illinois. These veteran cab unit diesels were in their final years of service, and were officially retired in September of 1992. This is on todays Metra / BNSF Railway 3 track mainline to Aurora Illinois.
