Pamela Anderson, the honorary chairman of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was in New Orleans (2010) to help relocate about 50 dogs from Louisiana to Virginia. Shelters in the area are more crowded since people lost jobs due to the BP oil spill.  Pamela adopted two of her own in the process.
