In this activity you will demonstrate how the greenhouse effect warms the Earth. A glass bowl placed upside down on a grassy surface and exposed to sunlight represents gases and clouds in the Earth’s atmosphere; the grassy surface represents the Earth’s land surface.

Children will demonstrate how the greenhouse effect warms the earth by placing a glass bowl upside down on the grassy surface. Frameworks: Make observations to determine that sunlight warms materials on Earth’s surface.

The Scientific Method

We started this experiment a couple of weeks ago when we studied pumpkins. We wanted to know if we could grow a pumpkin plant inside of a pu.

Conspiracy Theories abound! ~ISON Has Grown Wings?~ NASA says we will get an unprecedented "double wammie" of meteor dust when this "sun grazer" trails past Earth on one side & whips back around to shower us on the other side. They say we might see electric blue noctilucent clouds seeded by space dust scientists assume to be comprised of highly acidic diatomic carbon & biochemical nerve gas cyanogen. 91,000mph & over 3 miles wide~ (SEE: Science Channel doc on ISON at 10pm on Dec 7th of…

This portion of the Lagoon Nebula was imaged in three filters sensitive to optical and far-infrared light by Argentinean astronomers Julia Arias and Rodolfo Barba, using the Gemini South telescope in Chile with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph.

Skypunch or fallstreak hole. This happens when ice crystals fall through the cirrocumulous cloud leaving a large circular gap. Celestially beautiful.

This is a rare meteorological phenomenon called a ‘SKY PUNCH’. When people see these, they think it’s the end of the world. Ice crystals form above the high-altitude cirro-cumulo-stratus clouds, then fall downward, punching a hole in the cloudcover.

Doppler Radar images, such as this one over Salt Lake City, are useful for determining the location and intensity of precipitation. This is a great help in making cloud-seeding decisions.

Foldable for cloud types - great learning activity!

Awesome activity for helping students understand the different types of clouds. Used after the lesson on cloud types.
