Cradle Mountain forms the northern end of the wild Cradle Mt - Lake St Clair National Park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, covering approximately 1.38 million hectares (or about 3.46 million acres) and encompassing more than 20 per cent of Tasmania.
