The Temple Theater at Broadway and Easton streets was built by the IOOF to serve the organization as a meeting hall. The main feature of the building was an elaborate theater for live shows and events. It was managed by W.M. Sauvage, who also worked in the outdoor advertising field and served as Alton mayor. The street level of the building, which was razed in 1973 after a fire, was rented out to a variety of shops, including a Crivello Fruit Market and a cigar store.
