This photo is of Emma Watson from her 2009 Teen Vogue photo shoot. Although the silhouette is very different form the traditional silhouette of the era, the sleeves on this garment are very reminiscent and clearly influenced by the extreme leg-of-mutton sleeves. The purple shirt exemplifies the volume more successfully, but the white blouse displays the change from bulky at the shoulder to fitted at the wrist. -Marissa Smith

Lily Collins In Valentino at the 2012 Met Gala. Her gown is reminiscent of clothing from the Romantic Period. The high neckline, long sleeves and abundance of lace were common for day wear of that time. It also reminds me a little of the empire period (though obviously with a different waistline). But the white, floor length, frilly and flowing dresses were very common in the Empire Period, along with that sleeve (although the historical ones had more volume at the shoulder). 1/28 Addy Forte
