Kara Walker is a contemporary African American artist and currently is a professor of visual arts in the MFA program at Columbia University. She is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes.
Between studio visits with Mike Schmidt and Dave Klingaman this morning, I snapped some photos of cool life study work up on the walls in FA-4. During my chats with Mike and Dave, I learned about the differences between the Figurative Track and Contemporary Track MFA programs in COTA, and what keeps these young artists inspired and working. Stay tuned next week for their STUDIO VISIT ARTIST SPOTLIGHTS. It should be a great week for INDEPENDENT STUDY.
