A Midsummer Night's Dream. If you've ever totally fallen in love with someone, that person, in a sense actually becomes part of your very being and reason for living. Thus, if you are absent (separated from) from your beloved, it's basically the same as "banishing" a part of yourself and it makes you feel empty and incomplete because of this missing part.   As for suffering, to any person at least half-aware, it's an inevitable part of our existential condition (living).
