Johnny Cash - enlisted in the US Air Force on July 7, 1950. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and technical training at Brooks Air Force Base, both in San Antonio, TX, Cash was assigned to a U.S. Air Force Security Service unit, assigned as a Morse Code Intercept Operator for Soviet Army transmissions at Landsberg, Germany where he created his first band named " The Landsberg Barbarians." He enlisted and served as an aircraft gunner in the 760th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron, and in 1945 as a Superfortress crewman with the 39th Bombardment Group based on Guam. He was assigned to a B-29 bomber. He flew on 25 missions & was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received during his service. Most remembered for his roles in The Dirty Dozen and Death Wish.

John Leslie "Jackie" Coogan (October 26, 1914 – March 1, 1984), enlisted in the United States Army in March, 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he requested a transfer to United States Army Air Forces as a glider pilot because of his civilian flying experience. He volunteered for hazardous duty with and flew British troops, landing them at night in a small jungle clearing 100 miles behind Japanese lines. He played Uncle Fester on the Addams Family.
