This is the tomb of Empress Suiko in the town of Taishi on the western edge of Osaka Prefecture. She ruled Japan from the year 593 to 628. She was originally a consort to Emperor Bidatsu until he died of smallpox at a relatively early age. His brother succeeded him as Emperor Yomei but died of illness shortly after.
