Abandoned house at Rt 11/W Main St., Salem, Virginia. The buildings on either side of this house have recently been demolished. The photographer who took this shot is afraid that they are going to tear this one down as well.

Moore House, Virginia - Said to be haunted by Augustine Moore Jr, who was shot by a stray bullet when working in the family fields during the Revolutionary War. Another ghost believed to lurk is John Turner, a merchant who chose to watch the shelling of the British Army in Yorktown just days before they surrendered. Unfortunately he was too close to the shelling. He was wounded and died in his wife's arms, who is believed to haunt the house as well.

Training horses during the civil war actually required the horses to lay on the ground while soldiers fired rounds all around the animals. If one was to spook and get up, it would be shot and rejected for work in the war.
