Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, was a great favorite of Henry VIII. Brandon held a succession of offices in the royal household, becoming Master of the Horse in 1513, and received many valuable grants of land. After Wolsey's disgrace, Suffolk's influence increased daily. Suffolk supported Henry's ecclesiastical policy, receiving a large share of the lands after the dissolution of the monasteries.
