Swide’s Saint of the Day: 23rd February – Saint Romana Who lived in a cave - The daughter of an Imperial Roman official, Romana fled home aged 16 to avoid an arranged marriage. With the help of an Angel she discovered a cave on Mount Sorcate where Pope Saint Sylvester was hiding from the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian. The Pope baptised her and left her the cave as her home where she was visited by those attracted by her holiness. She died in the cave in c.324.
