These are the main themes of the novel. The love for family and the bond that the sisters have is what motivates them most and is what allows them to take on so many difficult things. Throughout the story the develop courage and the ability to face their fears.

TtT STEP FIVE- The theme for in the time of the butterflies is making a difference isn't pretty, the hard work is ugly and painful, but in the end it's worth it. Everything you fought for will somehow be repaid, sooner or later.

step:5 In this story the main character is more static she never changes her view on social acceptance. she constantly wants to fit in whether its getting noticed by boys or being accepted for her stature.

Crack the Character Step Overall so far throughout the story Minerva has stayed true to who she is as a person. She has made few changes but stuck to who she is and her plans in life to gain freedom so she would be considered static.

Figurative Language Metaphor: " Trujillo is a devil" pg 24. This a metaphor because Trujillo is being compared to the devil. I guess because he is a bad man and he basically has no heart just like the devil.

Step 3: Julia Alvarez shows symbolism because of her Mother's and Father's surname that goes back four generations, this shows how she is symbolized by her parents. This also shows who she is today.
