STARBUCKS presents Stories are Gifts to Share - Natalie Chanin by Dokument Films. When Natalie Chanin left Florence, Alabama at the age of 18, she headed first to New York, then to Europe, working as a costume designer and stylist for the fashion and entertainment industries. Twenty-two years later she returned to Florence to make hand-stitched T-shirts with the help of local seamstresses.

It is a photographic series I started in memory of my mother who died of cancer in 2008 and is entirely self funded. Edith Head (1897-1981) was an American costume designer who won eight Academy Awards. Head was known for her low-key working style and usually consulted extensively with the female stars with whom she worked. As a result she was a favorite among many of the leading female stars of the 1940s and 1950s such as Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Shirley MacLaine, Anne Baxter, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Natalie Wood.

After graduation, Natalie worked in the junior sportswear industry on New York’s Seventh Avenue, before moving abroad. For over a decade, Natalie worked as a stylist and costume designer, travelling the globe.
