The first took place over 4 days in April 1929, without landing but during which mail was dropped to the large German colony at Jaffa in Palestine. The 2nd flight took place in 1931 beginning on 9 April with a flight to Cairo, Egypt, where the airship landed less than 2 days later. After a brief stop the "Graf Zeppelin" proceeded on to Palestine before returning to Friedrichshafen on 23 April.

Today's celebrates the first flight of a Zeppelin! In the flew for 18 minutes above Lake Constance in Germany. Zeppelins eventually made many passenger flights until deemed too unsafe to use.

The Graf Zeppelin over Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona 1929. Probably a fake of that time, zeppelins were in fashion and postcard makers added zeppelins to the sky. In this case the dirigible is too low to be safe over a built area.
