George Washington Carver, American scientist, botanist, educator, & inventor. Believed to have been born into slavery, he was known for his research of alternative crops to cotton, such as peanuts, soybeans & sweet potatoes, which also aided in nutrition. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops, both for food & other products to improve their quality of life. He created 105 food recipes & 100 different products using peanuts. Time magazine dubbed him a "Black Leonardo." R.I.P.
