Whilst serving in the army in WW1, he took possession of a very strange instrument : a cello, made by two soldiers in a munitions factory. After the war he resumed an international solo career, touring extensively and much later in his life he sacrificed his time entirely to his career as Professor at the Paris Conservatory.
