#commoncore #STEM Oscar and the Cricket, by Geoff Waring. One day Oscar sees a ball in the grass. "Try pushing it!" says Cricket. Oscar learns that the ball rolls slowly in grass and faster on a path, until it bounces off a tree and changes direction. Some things need a push to move, and others use their muscles to move themselves -- and to move plenty of other things, too. HC 9780763640293 / PB 9780763645120 / Ages 4 & up / GRL M

Motion: Push and Pull, Fast and Slow. This book helps explain the different ways to make an object move and the different directions objects can move. I would like to include this book in my lessons, either by having students read it during centers and do an activity to align with it, or by introducing an activity/experiment by reading it to the class.
If you need a unit to grab those reluctant learners and "Power" them up, you can't do better than force and motion! It's filled with experiments, plus lots of movement and action. It's everything kids could want! Get links to everything you need on this post!
