Chippendale style, mahogany with marquetry inlays, back of splats with figural inlay, cabriole legs, ball-and-claw feet, upholstered slip seat, Continental, 19th century, 32-1/2 x 25-1/4 x 26 in. Minor losses and checking to inlays, otherwise generally good condition with normal surface wear and abrasions. Provenance: Private Collection.
A magnificent 19th-century mahogany arm chair crafted in the George II taste. From the pierced, intertwined ribbon back and duck-form armrests to the hairy ball-and-claw feet, the quality of carving is deep and richly detailed.
