Faraday's Law of Induction-- is a basic law of electromagnetism predicting how a magnetic field will interact with an electric circuit to produce an electromotive force (EMF)—a phenomenon called electromagnetic induction. It is the fundamental operating principle of transformers, inductors, and many types of electrical motors, generators and solenoids.

Ampère's Circuit Law (with Maxwell's addition): Electric currents and changes in electric fields are proportional to the magnetic field circulating about the area they pierce.  From this equation, James Clerk Maxwell was the first to realize that light was an electromagnetic wave. He was also the first to determine the exact speed of EM waves by taking 1/√(μ₀ε₀), which equals 299792458 m/s (μ₀ is the magnetic constant, while ε₀ is the electric constant.)
