Cinde Hoppe. I am no quilter. I can’t stitch in a straight line for one thing. But if I were quilting these clouds, I wouldn’t have to. This is really beautiful. I can’t figure out if it is all fabric pieced together or if the artist painted on the fabric first and then quilted on top of it. If the latter, I could see this as a future project of mine.

lines and colors: Cayce Zavaglia creates her portraits in a novel variation on the time honored traditions of tapestry, using crewel embroidery wool in a method in which the direction of the threads are not blended into a uniform pattern, but given direction within the creation of the form — like brushstrokes, producing a much more “painterly” (“threaderly”?) surface.
